I love having Robin as a tech editor. She’s a quick worker, and she’s great at noticing little things that I’ve left out or never even considered.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Robin for the tech editing of my latest knitting patterns, The Frankensweater and The Little Black Tee and I cannot recommend her services enough. Not only did Robin demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, ensuring every part of the pattern was clear and accurate, but her efficiency and timeliness were excellent. Throughout the process, communication was seamless; Robin was always available to discuss any concerns or questions I had, making the collaboration smooth and straightforward. Her expertise and dedication have undoubtedly elevated the quality of my patterns, and I am incredibly grateful for her contribution. For any designer seeking a professional, thorough, and easy-to-work-with tech editor, look no further than Robin.

Robin tech edited my Marl Mirage sock pattern, which is the first knitting pattern I wrote and graded for multiple sizes. Robin was flexible in terms of offering feedback in a way that suited my workflow, and the feedback itself was comprehensive. Robin supported me in improving my syntax, and she ensured that it adhered to important pattern-writing conventions. For both new and experienced knitting pattern writers, Robin is a pleasure to work with!

Let's Work Together

I connected with Robin via the Tech Editor Hub on Facebook while learning pattern design and writing for my first stranded-color pullover.  Robin responded to my post, generously offering to take a look at my pattern. I was a neophyte and she wanted to learn more about editing circular yoke patterns.  I couldn’t believe that a professional TE would offer to look at what would be a very messy first pattern! Beyond providing excellent editorial feedback, I learned SO much from Robin’s reviews of the pattern.  She did a fantastic job proof-reading for the correct measurements and stitch counts, as well as layout and formatting. She offered useful tutorials and video links to assist the pattern user with techniques referenced in my pattern as well as terrific suggestions for explaining issues to the pattern reader such as choosing the right size/fit (all knitters should be grateful for such advocacy!). Her persistence and clear communication over e-mail increased my respect and confidence in her skills.  Robin has a gift for concisely articulating complicated technical issues and mathematical equations in writing, which not only resulted in an improved pattern, but also informed and advanced my design and pattern writing skills. She offered to talk on the phone if more clarity was required.  I especially admired Robin’s ability to look squarely and objectively at issues in the pattern that I, as the writer, just hoped would go away, but knew had to be corrected. This is one of the chief values of working with a skilled, diplomatic TE like Robin.  Throughout our correspondence, she deftly negotiated the fine line between editing the pattern and honoring my pattern-writing and design sensibilities.  Rather than being overwhelmed with corrections, I was excited to learn from Robin, and we quickly revised a pretty rough pattern into something useful to knitters.  Our collaboration was, for me, a highly successful, confidence-building introduction to collaborating with a Technical Editor.  I will definitely collaborate with Robin again on future designs.
